The term is believed to Zaman Edan first introduced by
Ranggawarsita in Fiber Kalatida, which consists of 12 stanzas of song Sinom.
One of the most famous couplet is:
Serat Kalatidha |
(amenangi zaman édan)
(éwuhaya ing pambudi)
(mélu ngédan nora tahan)
(yén tan mélu anglakoni)
(boya keduman mélik)
(kaliren wekasanipun)
(ndilalah kersa Allah)
(beja-bejaning wong kang lali)
(luwih beja wong kang éling klawan waspada).
English translation is:
witness the crazy era,
paced difficulty in acting,
insane not;
but if you do not follow the ( crazy ),
will have no part,
famine in the end,
but has become the will of God,
happy - happy people forget,
will be happier people still remember and alert.
Serat Kalatidha versi Huruf Jawa (Hanacaraka) |
The above poem by observation of
a writer named Ki Sumidi Adisasmito is a form of expression of resentment
Ranggawarsita during the reign Pakubuwono IX surrounded by sycophants or
traitors who likes to seek personal gain . The poem is still relevant to modern
times where many found officials who like to make a personal keutungan ignoring
the loss of others .
